A RED Rooster store in Malaga has been fined $75,000 for serving raw chicken.

The fast food business was handed the fine in the Midland Magistrates Court and ordered to pay $2000 in court costs.

The City of Swan prosecuted the business after a customer bought takeaway only to discover the chicken was not cooked when they took a bite.

The court was told after returning home and taking a bite of the food, the customer discovered it contained raw chicken, so they took it back to the store.

The store wanted the customer to hand the chicken over but, unsatisfied with that response, the customer reported the incident instead.

The proprietor plead guilty to selling food not complying the food act, which carries a maximum penalty for a body corporate of $250,000.
