DO THE CRIME: Two young girls have been charged and a third will be cautioned after allegedly breaking into a shopping centre to make milkshakes.
THREE girls aged 10 to 14 have been arrested after breaking into a Kimberley shopping centre to make milkshakes.
Between 3am and 3.30am on Sunday the girls allegedly climbed the roof of the Kununurra Coles shopping complex and smashed a window into a patisserie.
One of the girls then allegedly climbed through the window to help the other two girls in, before they took some drinks and made themselves milkshakes.
A 14-year-old girl and two 10-year-olds were charged with burglary, stealing and damage. The 14-year-old and a 10-year-old will appear in Kununurra children's court at a later date, while the second 10-year-old was issued a juvenile caution.
A Kununurra police spokesman said the girls had caused about $1500 damage to the shopping complex, but had only stolen about $4.50 worth of milkshake making ingredients.
The officer said there was an increasing number of young children being caught stealing food and drinks in the town because they were hungry.
