Family robbed, car stolen outside cafe

A FAMILY was threatened at knifepoint and their car stolen in a brazen robbery in front of a Midland café on Sunday.

About 2.15pm the father was waiting for his wife with his 10-year-old son outside the café near the intersection of Great Northern Highway and Toodyay Road when he was approached by a man with a knife.

The car was then stolen. Later in the day Police conducted a search on a house in Embleton.

Two men were found in the house, allegedly along with a quantity of drugs, stolen property, ammunition, and a fire arm.

Detectives have charged one of the men, a 42-year-old man, with possession of MDMA with intent to sell or supply and receiving stolen goods.

Police said the 42-year-old was expected to be further charged over the other drugs, firearm and ammunition found at the property and inquiries are continuing into the armed robbery.

Fish and chip shop hold-up

In a second robbery, a fish and chip shop was held up by a man with a knife about 7.30pm in Beechboro yesterday.

Police are calling for witnesses to the attempted armed robbery, where a man walked into the shop and demanded cash from staff.

Two staff members were at the front of the store when the man came in, but one of them yelled out for her husband, who was at the back of the shop.

The man then ran off empty handed.

He is described as olive skinned, about 180cm tall, medium build, wearing dark clothing, a red baseball cap, and a scarf over his face.

Two pizza stores robbed within 40 minutes

TWO pizza stores were targeted in separate armed robberies overnight.

The first occurred at Mindarie Domino's on Bergen Way, about 8.30pm, when a man armed with a screwdriver entered the store.

The man jumped over the front counter and grabbed cash before fleeing the store.

Police said the man was described as 30 to 35 years old, of solid build, 175cm tall with light brown skin, wearing a black baseball cap black shirt and dark pants.

In the second robbery, at about 9.10pm, the Domino's Beldon on Gwendoline Drive was held up by two men, one armed with a sledgehammer and the other with a crowbar.

One of the men smashed the counter with the sledgehammer before demanding cash from employees, he then jumped the counter and made further demands.

The man grabbed the till and both then left through the front door.

It is believed they left in an older model white sedan.

One is described as being fair-skinned with a tan, solid build, 40 to 45 years old, about 173cm and wearing a black and white chequered shirt, blues jeans and a balaclava.

The second man was described as fair-skinned, in his early 20s, brown hair and brown eyes, wearing a dark hooded jumper.

Man, 88, and woman, 60, robbed

A SIXTY-year-old woman has fought off a would-be carjacker who was armed with a knife.

The woman had just parked her car on Hobbs Avenue in Como at 4.20 on Saturday afternoon when she was approached by a man who demanded her handbag and her keys.

When she refused, the bandit grabbed her handbag and dragged her to the ground while she hung onto it.

He then tried to steal the woman's car but she pushed him away.

The robber threatened her with a knife before running away.

The woman sustained a grazed elbow during the attack.

A short time later, Police located a 31-year-old man with the woman's bag.

He was charged with aggravated robbery and will appear in Perth Magistrates Court tomorrow.

In a separate incident, an 88-year-old man on a gopher was robbed while waiting at a bus stop in Rivervale yesterday afternoon.

The man was approached by a woman asking for money at Kooyong Road, near Gerring Court, about 3:30pm.

When he declined, the woman reached into his pocket and stole cash.

The man held on to the woman who then hit him on the arm.

A witness to the robbery flagged down passing police who arrested the 25-year-old Leederville woman a short time later.

Police recovered the man's money.

The woman has been charged in connection with two other shoplifting incidents and will appear Perth Magistrates Court tomorrow.
