Man in court over baby's Pilbara death

Police want to speak with anyone with anyone who saw a silver 1982 Toyota Landcruiser (80 series) travelling between Broome and Karratha between late Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon.

A BROOME man will appear in court today charged over the death of a 10-month old baby who was found critically ill at a remote Pilbara Roadhouse.

The baby was located at the Fortescue Roadhouse, south-west of Karratha, yesterday afternoon and died en route to the Nickol Bay Hospital in an ambulance.

The child had earlier been reported missing from Broome.

A 25-year-old man from Broome has been charged with grievous bodily harm and will appear in the Karratha Magistrates Court today.

The charge will be reviewed after a post-mortem examination is completed.

Detectives investigating the death have asked the the public to help piece together what happened.  

Police want to speak with anyone with anyone who saw a silver 1982 Toyota Landcruiser (80 series) travelling between Broome and Karratha.

It's believed the vehicle left Broome about 11pm on Tuesday night and was located at the Fortescue Roadhouse about 2pm the next day.

Investigations are continuing. Anyone with information about this incident, or the vehicle described, is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Man held after baby boy dies in Pilbara

A MAN is in police custody after a baby boy died after being found at a remote roadhouse near in the Pilbara. about 1000km from where he was reported missing yesterday.

Major Crime detectives are investigating the death after they and St John Ambulance were called to the Fortescue Road House, in Mardie about 2pm yesterday.

There, a 25-year-old man with a 10-month-old boy were found, and the baby was not breathing.

Paramedics took the baby to hospital, but he died on the way.

The boy had been reported missing from Broome earlier that day, after he was taken from his house by a man known to his mother.

The man found with the boy is in police custody, but no charges have yet been laid.
